Amy Tinkler won bronze at the 2016 Olympics in Rio

Amy Tinkler has withdrawn from the England squad for next month's Commonwealth Games due to injury.

Team England announced the 18-year-old, who won a bronze medal in the floor competition at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, had been forced to pull out of the event on Australia's Gold Coast owing to ankle ligament damage suffered at the recent Gymnastics World Cup.

"I'm absolutely gutted and heartbroken right now, my dream was to go to the Commonwealth Games and compete for my country but I will come back stronger," Tinkler said.

"I will be working hard on my rehab and the aim, if all goes well, is to put myself in contention for the British team for the European Championships in Glasgow this summer."
